Scooting to Singapore for Slingers

October 10, 2016

The night was filled with so much fun and laughter – it was when we officially fell in love with Singapore!

OMG! We were so excited to be scooting off to Singapore and when Scoot upgraded us to business class with express check it was a massive bucketlist tick!

Although they are a budget airline, our boeing 787 Dreamliner had built-in chargers at our seats, with access to WiFi in the sky and automated tinted windows instead of shutters.  Scoot call it the Dreamliner effect, and it was an experience like none other in the air!

The cabin crew was great and gave us exceptional service throughout the whole journey.  We were snuggled in our Scoot blankets with our roomy reclining chairs and we were there in no time!

We’re here!

Upon arrival at the luxury five-star Swissotel Stamford Hotel, we were thrilled to be upgraded to a harbour-view room on level 39, with the most spectacular view overlooking Singapore.  Could this trip get any better?

We were greeted with a beautiful gift basket including wine, fruit and chocolates and we couldn’t wait to head out to explore the beautiful city.

When we had walked only five minutes from our hotel, Jennifer’s shoe heel snapped off, which was the first of many crazy and hilarious events of this trip.

We headed to Clarke Quay where a dear friend, Eustinah, just happened to be in Singapore and became our tour guide. The night was filled with so much fun and laughter – it was when we officially fell in love with Singapore!

The next morning, we were offered a tour of the hotel by Jonathan Leong (pictured right) and we couldn’t believe there were nearly 300 shops in our hotel.

Seriously! The view from the Equinox dining and bars located on levels 70 and 71 was breathtaking.

If we spent our entire stay in the hotel, we would have had a great holiday! But this trip was all about exploring Singapore… and that we did!

You can’t go to Singapore without a visit to the world-renowned Raffles that dates back to 1887, and you must have an original Slinger. In the name of good reporting, we did our duty!

We entered the exquisite lobby complete with white marble colonnades that encircled the atrium soaring three floors up and leading to 103 suites, 14 restaurants and bars, and a shopping arcade.

We were hosted by the fabulous Cheryl Kang (pictured left) and we visited the presidential suite where Michael Jackson and many other famous personalities—from writers to celebrities, politicians and members of royalty, such as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge–stayed when in Singapore.

After our tour, Cheryl hosted us at the Long Bar which serves over 600 Singapore Slingers daily! We spent the afternoon sipping on cocktails, appetizers and of course the traditional throwing of the peanut shells on the ground. We can’t thank Cheryl enough for her kind hospitality.

Next…

This is only the tip of the iceberg. We’ve got exciting news for She Brisbane readers next week and we’ll tell you more about some of the exciting sites and places we experienced in Singapore that you must explore yourself.
