Wow! Does the Lavazza Italian Film Festival know how to throw a party!   We were invited to attend this red carpet event for their opening gala night in Brisbane at the Palace Barracks with the launch of the film Perfect Strangers (Perfetti sconosciuti), winner of the Best Film and Best Script at the 2016 David de Donatello Awards.

It was an extravaganza and stylish event, with ladies being handed a beautiful red rose on the red carpet, alongside the glowing white neon sign “Amore”.

The beverages flowed like the Po (that’s the longest river in Italy) including Bandini Prosecco (sparkling wine) on arrival and an after-party including Lavazza and Connoisseur “Affogato Bar”, Peroni, and Aquilani Italian wine. Add to this a real taste of Italy with live entertainment and a famous festival gift bag filled with goodies!

Perfect Strangers (Perfetti sconosciuti) – a must see!
Movie: Perfect Strangers (Perfetti sconosciuti) – a must see!

The movie was fantastic and kept us intrigued throughout, as the film follows seven friends at a dinner party who decide to share the content of every message, email and phone call they receive over the night during which more secrets than expected are revealed… it is a must see! Imagine having to do that!

The festival is sponsored by Lavazza who have been delighting coffee aficionados for over a century, and it is screening at Palace Cinemas across seven cities. The Lavazza Italian Film Festival is the biggest Italian Film Festival in the world outside Italy. On now in Brisbane until 19 October.

The Magic Matt & Mike Show

The red carpet!
The red carpet!

When you combine the likes of Matt Hollywood and Mike Goldman, yes you get the “Matt & Mike” show, and you are in for a unforgettable night with two mates cracking jokes, pulling pranks and playing bazaar games with celebrity guests. You can either attend live in the audience on Monday evenings at the Illusions Magic Show theatre at Sanctuary Cove, or tune in live on Facebook here.

We of course opted to go to the Live Show, and on arrival we were whisked away by Mike Goldman as VIP guests, and ushered to the very front row where we could feel the energetic vibes of these two amazing entertainers.

Of course, everyone knows Mikey from Big Brother – he has clocked up hundreds of hosting hours of live international and national television shows: Day of the Doctor, Friday Night Live, Up Late, Big Brother, Joker Poker, New Year’s Eve and the hugely popular Slide.

And the magical Matt Hollywood is one of Australia’s most recognised comedy entertainers and magicians.  He has appeared on numerous television shows and for the past 15 years won so many awards for his magical skills including Australia’s coveted “Champion of Magic”.

Dean Vegas, the best!
Dean Vegas, the best!

Throughout the evening, we had celebrity guests including Jonny Murphy from Potbelleez, renowned for the song “Is there anybody out there feeling something?” and the fabulous Dean Vegas – the best Elvis impersonator we’ve ever seen.

We had so much fun with Matt & Mike and their shenanigans, and we highly recommend this experience to anyone. There were lots of opportunities for audience participation for those who like to take part! They also have heaps of prize giveaways for both online and live audience attendees.

We are really looking forward to seeing Matt’s live Illusions Magic Show which is on every Friday and Saturday night.  Watch this space… abracadabra… presto!

We’re in Singapore for some shopping, sightseeing and of course some partying. We’ll tell you all about it when we get home!
