Brisbane was bursting with activities this week and we struggled to pick the best two to bring you. But we definitely could smell the salt air at the Polo by the Sea and Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea with a nautical-theme!
Land ho! at the Biggest Morning Tea
The Stamford Hotel’s nautical theme was absolutely the stand-out, with an amazing high tea buffet featuring anchor cupcakes and sailor-themed desserts that were a big hit with all the attendees.
The guest speaker, Alana, touched everyone’s heart with the story of her husband’s battle with bowel cancer. She spoke of the enormous support Cancer Council Queensland offered her and her three children throughout the treatment and since her husband’s passing; there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
It’s such a pleasure to support this worthy charity as one in every two people is affected by cancer throughout their lives.
Ferrari Polo by the Sea
Wow, we couldn’t believe our luck when we won VIP tickets to the polo; neither of us had experienced the polo before and it was fast becoming the place to be seen!
Off we went to the Ferrari Polo by the Sea and our luck continued when our friend, Lucas Wilson (pictured right) of Jewel Gold Coast (the Dalian Wanda Group) invited us to join his Jewel Marquee for the day. Lovely!
If you’ve seen Pretty Woman, you know about the divot stomp – this is a polo tradition at half-time, whereby spectators are invited to march onto the field and replace the mounds of earth (divots) that are torn up by the horses’ hooves during the game. This was so much fun and definitely a must do at the Polo.
Other highlights included free flowing Pol Roger champagne, canapés, fashions on the field, charity auctions and of course watching the talented polo players.
We were absolutely thrilled to meet Cate and Bronte Campbell—Olympic swimmers—who were honoured guests in the Jewel Marquee. They are such down to earth girls and these sisters will be the ones to watch during the Rio Olympics.
It may have been our first time, but definitely not our last; we can’t wait for the next polo event.
Catch you next report … hint there’s an Italian flavour to it!
