A college student in America has become an online star after she proudly revealed that she edited her date out of one of her photos because he called her ‘disgusting.’

Miranda Baker, an 18-year-old student at Iowa State University, took to Twitter on Sunday to share two photos: one of herself posed with her date and another that sees him cropped out of the snapshot.

“After getting called disgusting last night, I successfully dropped 200lbs!! (Before and after pics),” she captioned the images.

Miranda said she and her date had been seeing each other for about five weeks before that night.

She explained that they spent Saturday afternoon having lunch with her parents before they went back to their dorm rooms to get ready for his fraternity formal. After they arrived at the formal together, Miranda said he criticised her behaviour from earlier in the afternoon.

“He said to me: ‘The way you were acting today was disgusting and unattractive’,” she said, without elaborating on the behaviour he was referring to. Miranda added that she ended up leaving the formal to meet up with her friends because she was “done with him”.

“About an hour later he called me, yelling at me to apologise for leaving him!,” she said.

“I said, ‘I will not apologize for leaving you after you called me disgusting and unattractive.”‘

Miranda’s post quickly went viral, earning nearly 300,00 likes and more than 33,000 retweets. Plenty of people took to the comments section to praise her for the post, with one person named Tyler Darden tweeting: “No idea who you are but I’m rolling on the floor right now. Good for you! You deserve better.”

“I love this! Know your worth! Ps you are stunning,” someone else known as ‘BA’ wrote.

And one hopeful guy named Noah added: “I think you need to gain a healthy 165 now.”

Although the overall response was positive, one person named Kennedy took to the comments section to defend Miranda’s date.

“It’s really funny when no one knows the ACTUAL truth about what happened. Calling someone’s actions disgusting is not the same as the actual person…” she wrote.

When people criticised her for sticking up for him, Kennedy said she was defending her friend who is being “publicly attacked and bullied” for someone manipulating his words. Miranda said she doesn’t know who Kennedy is, but she insisted that she doesn’t know the whole story.

The teen admitted that she first asked her friends if she should share the post as a joke, thinking only a few people would see it.

“I did not expect it to get this big,” she noted.

However, Miranda is happy about the outcome.

“I’ve gotten messages from woman telling me they were in awful and abusive relationships. Although mine wasn’t abusive, I felt like I was helping these woman,” she said.
