When sassy Cassie G embarked on her university journey she knew she’d get to meet lots of beautiful, charming, nurturing guys while studying her passion in the world of musical theatre.

This was her time; she’d finally found a flock of friends who shared her interests in jazz music, 90s jams, Fosse dance, Liza Minnelli…and men. See inside the mildly unhealthy symbiotic relationship between one woman and the entire gay community of Brisbane, as Cassie shares her trials of love, loss and the responsibilities of a queen-in-waiting.

Three women are exploding at the seams, barely contained, and leaking clues to their identity as they trample through tropes! Who are these women as they unburden themselves of layers of artifice? Revealing feminine bodies in pieces, turning them upside down, stretching them to breaking point, laughing at this ludicrous posturing, how long can their true selves remain concealed?

Playing with expectations of feminine bodies Monsteria ask their audience, “What are you looking at?” and celebrate with them, the risky sleight of hand that is circus.

Everyone knows how superhero stories work.

Save day, rescue damsel, witty one liner, post credits scene. But Michelle Zahner doesn’t want to do that. She wants to ask the real questions: Why are there never pockets in lycra costumes? How do heroes make rent? What if there’s no villain? And why don’t we have a word for a male damsel?

For this mission she’s combining storytelling, poetry, comedy and physical theatre. With an accidental superhero, a lost journalist and a girl who doesn’t need saving she explores what we expect from heroes, and what might happen if we get it.

Four women not afraid to make a statement, throw shade at the modern world in this gutsy, high-energy circus production. Witnesses to a generation of YouTubers, Instafamous stars, ‘leaning in’ and ‘having it all’, they find a common thread in the tension between their internal and external lives.

Defiantly tackling stereotypes, these women examine the different faces they present to the world in their professional and personal lives. Through group acrobatics and aerials this comedic, thought-provoking show investigates social expectations.

As they say, “smiling gives you wrinkles, resting bitch face keeps you pretty.”

Celebrate 30 years of the iconic movies PRINCESS BRIDE and DIRTY DANCING this December!

On Saturday 2 December, Kristian Fletcher presents a series of special 30th anniversary screenings of the 1987 cult movie classics PRINCESS BRIDE and DIRTY DANCING at Metro Arts, 109 Edward St Brisbane City.

Whilst home sick in bed, a young boy’s grandfather reads him a story called The Princess Bride: Buttercup has been chosen as the bride of Prince Humperdinck but still laments the death of her one true love, Westley. The result is a crowd-favourite and one of the most quotable movies ever made!

Princess Bride was made for a modest budget and was a somewhat sleeper hit when first released, however great sales on home video has ensured its ongoing status and appeal.

On the otherhand, Dirty Dancing was one of the highest grossing films of 1987 - making a profit of over $200 million. Early reactions to the film were mixed on, but it caught on with audiences during its cinematic run and has built a following, particularly amongst female audiences.

Spending the summer at a Catskills resort with her family, Frances “Baby” Houseman falls in love with the camp’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle.

Starring Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze. With a soundtrack of Sixties hits and some of the greatest dance numbers ever caught on film.

Tickets for all sessions are selling fast!

Tickets $12 (one movie) $16 (two movies) + booking fee

"Revisit these iconic movies with an audience of fans - the ultimate way to experience these Eighties classics," Fletcher said.

QSO continues its annual tradition of presenting Messiah, in 2017 with Handel specialist Erin Helyard at the helm.

This is an oratorio you must witness, if not every year, then this once. Telling the story of Jesus’ birth, life, death and resurrection through music and solo arias, interspersed with parts for compelling chorus, Messiah includes one of the most famous pieces of Baroque choral music ever created: the rousing Hallelujah chorus.
