The Talk of Newstead

Following the former Brisbane Lord Mayor Sallyanne Atkinson’s talk, two more of Brisbane’s favourite speakers will be speaking at some iconic Newstead locations in a series of evening talks from November through December. Presented by Aveo Newstead these free talks will showcase this beautiful area and her iconic buildings both modern and heritage.

On November 6 from 5:30 – 7pm Queensland’s favourite columnist Frances Whiting will speak at the High Church, Fortitude Valley. Frances has taken the whole country on a journey through her weekly columns in the Sunday Mail detailing love, laughter, loss and triumph. Her beautiful novel ‘Walking on Trampolines’ is a must read and has now been published in 9 countries. She is also Mum to two superb children and wife to the luckiest man in Australia, husband John.

Lastly on December 3 from 5:30 – 7pm at Light Street in Fortitude Valley,  journalist and author Hugh Lunn will tell us of his amazing journey from Walkley Award winning journalist in the ‘70’s to author of his Brisbane memoir ‘Over the Top with Jim’. This memoir became Australia’s all-time best-selling childhood memoir and Hugh adapted it for the stage for the first ever Brisbane Festival which from there it toured the state. This Queensland Icon has won the AGE book of the year prize for literature with his work ‘ Vietnam: A Reporter’s  War ‘. Hugh has  also been immortalised in sandstone by sculptor Rhyl Hinwood at the University of Queensland.
