You Beauty! 3 Foods To Ramp Up Your Beauty Routine

April 3, 2017

You know those people who seem to glow from the inside-out? You can’t work out if they live on carrot juice and are literally glowing or whether their moisturiser includes 24 carat gold – but they’re beaming with what appears to be health and you want yourself some of that.

We know the foods we eat nourish us from the inside and fuel our day on the outside, so could your shopping trolley be your strongest weapon in the arsenal against ageing and the holy grail of beauty?

These beauty superfoods will get you glowing in no time and you don’t have to pay a fortune or trek to the depths of the amazon or your health food store to get your hands on them. So what nutrients are we talking about exactly?

For skin SOS we’re talking zinc, vitamins E and C plus those essential fatty acids – to smooth, nourish and repair the skin and help with collagen production and elasticity. ‘Becky with the good hair’ knows silica and vitamin B are key – to strengthen hair, skin and nail tissue, then add potassium to the mix to help manage fluid retention and puffiness and you’ve pretty much nailed it.

How? It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3…

1. Stunning seafood

Loaded with zinc, omega-3 fatty acids and magnesium, seafood ticks a whole lot of beauty boxes. Oily varieties like salmon, sardines, mackerel and herring are great, but even better (and perfect for those who can’t stand fishy fish) – is shellfish. Think clams, oysters and mussels. Try getting 2-3 serves of seafood a week for adults.

2. Fabulous fats

All hail these beauty essentials. Already crushing avo on toast with a drizzle of olive oil for breaky? Then you’re on the right track. Think nuts, seeds, avocado, coconut and coconut oil, olives and olive oil as well as oily fish. A little with every meal is best.

3. Glorious greens

Nothing screams wellbeing like those deeply hued, vibrant greens. Full of vitamins and minerals they’ll make you feel as trendy as an influencer on a vintage bike at the local farmers market. We’re talking spinach, kale, broccoli, lettuce, rocket, parsley – some with every meal will boost your nutrient intake and fill you up with the good stuff, with bonus points if you eat them raw.

Doing all of the above and not getting your glow on? A few saboteurs could be hijacking your progress, including too much sugar, booze, saturated and trans-fats as well as not enough water. Bump up your H20 to 2-3 litres a day and give your body a little time to ‘come clean’ – not only will your hair, skin and nails thank you, but your waistline and wellbeing will too.
